How is my DNA used to make my fragrance? is it a pheromone? What if my DNA smells bad?

My DNA Fragrance is not a pheromone enhanced fragrance and no claims have been made or will be made that it is. DNA has no odor, so it does not set the precedent for your natural scent nor does it control the smell of the fragrance you are creating. All My DNA Fragrances smell good. They are a mystical blend of fragrance notes formulated using your DNA genetic code, which outlines the blueprint for your exclusive fragrance formulation.


How do I collect my DNA, is it painful?

Collecting your DNA sample is painless and simple. Follow the step-by-step directions on the back of the consent form using the provided sterile swab (which looks like a large q-tip) and swab the inside of your cheek. Cheek cells are the easiest to collect and most commonly used in collecting DNA samples.  Place the sample in the provided envelope (do not use plastic, this will contaminate the sample) and mail back to our lab in the provided pre-addressed envelope.

Can genetic information be retrieved from my fragrance?
No.  Your DNA sample is processed into a numerical sequence similar to a social security number.  No one can use this code to extract any genetic information which is specific to your DNA.


Is my DNA kept confidential?

My DNA Fragrance is committed to its customer’s genetic privacy and upholds diligent security measures that protect all confidential information and lab samples. Your genetic information and/or samples are never stored or sold for research and no information is ever submitted to any forensic bio-database. All DNA samples are destroyed in compliance with federal regulations and your formulation mix is kept on file for future orders. Please refer to our privacy policy below for more information.


Why is the fragrance so expensive for first time customers?

To create your fragrance you must submit a DNA sample to our laboratory. This will provide the blueprint for the creation of your fragrance formulation. The one time lab fee is included in the cost of your fragrance and your formulation is kept on file for future refill orders.

Why does the fragrance come in an aluminum bottle?

My DNA Fragrance is always shipped in an aluminum bottle with a fine midst sprayer. (Midst sprayers do not spray a fine midst for perfume because of the high oil content, it is more of a squirt. Feel free to unscrew the cap if you prefer to dab a bit of fragrance rather than spray it.)

Why do we use an aluminum bottle for all of our fragrances?  Its simple!  To preserve your fragrance.

Fragrance compounds in perfumes will degrade or break down if improperly stored in the presence of heat, light, oxygen or extraneous organic materials.  The presence of oxygen in the head space of the bottle and environmental factors will alter the smell of the fragrance after awhile. 

Perfumes are best preserved when kept in light-tight aluminum bottles and refrigerated to relatively low temperatures of about 37-47 degrees Fahrenheit. 

My DNA Fragrance elected to use an aluminum bottle to preserve the fragrance by protecting it from sunlight.

The aluminum bottle is also part of our environmentally friendly concept.  


Why is the process so lengthy?

Our process involves many steps in order to mix your exclusive My DNA Fragrance.  Perfume is a delicate process and generally takes time. Mailing and shipping causes some delays, but we have not experienced our customers having many problems. We will send you a DNA home collection kit and then you will need to send it back directly to our lab in the provided self addressed envelope. Once our lab processes your sample our perfumer will go to work on formulating your exclusive My DNA Fragrance.  Within 30 days from receipt and processing of your sample, barring your sample is not compromised, we will ship your fragrance. Please note, we ship the fragrance within 30 days after the DNA analysis is processed. What if I don’t like My DNA Fragrance?

My DNA has a Quality Guarantee. We warrant our products to be superior quality. Fragrances are designed exclusively for you using your DNA as the blueprint for your fragrance formulation, which is totally unique to each customer. My DNA Fragrance has no control over the actual fragrance mixture as each formulation is dependent upon the DNA blueprint of each customer. Because this is a customized product with a laboratory process we will do everything possible to supply the customer with an exclusive fragrance. See terms of service for more information.


Can I purchase My DNA Fragrance as a gift for someone?

Yes.  You may purchase My DNA Fragrance as a gift, but we will not be able to proceed without their DNA sample.  They will still need to collect a DNA sample using their DNA home collection swab kit, sign the consent form and return it to our lab for processing.  Make sure that the sample is marked with the correct name and address.  We will then process their fragrance and send it to them directly or can send it to you for delivery.


Can I give someone my fragrance to wear?

Yes if you like. If it is a gift for someone of the opposite sex, please let us know so that we can give that information to the perfumer.

What personal information do we gather?

We collect only the information you provide us and will only use it to provide you with the services outlined on our site. We will send you a DNA home collection swab kit and consent form for you to collect your own sample and return to our laboratory. Your DNA sample is safe guarded at all times and is in the hands of our professional scientist and laboratory technicians who set the standard for quality with over 100 years of collective experiences in the laboratory testing industry.


Your Information and Samples are Secure

We are dedicated to your genetic privacy and security and will not share or sell your information or DNA samples under any circumstances. Your DNA samples are used solely for the purpose of creating a profile for the creation of your exclusive fragrance. Once the sample is decoded it is destroyed in accordance with federally regulated guidelines which comply with the HIPA Act of 1996. Under no circumstances are samples used for research of any kind nor is your information submitted to any type of forensic or bio-research database.

Our laboratory is modeled after ISO 17025:2005, General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories, the international benchmark for approving the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Our quality program has been engineered to meet the diverse requirements of several accreditation bodies and standards, including AABB, ASCLD and DAB and complies with all applicable industry guidelines setting the standard for quality in DNA processing.
